Custom serialized scratch-off verification labels
Scratch-off labels with a unique code hide a PIN under a silver or grey coating. Whoever receives the product scratches off the layer and checks the code on a web page, and a QR code can lead straight to that page. The coating stops the PIN being read early.
They are printed on PET or paper, with variable data and a different code on each unit (QR or DataMatrix), and can add a holographic layer or a fragile base. Size and shape are to the customer's specification.

Frequently asked questions
How does a scratch-off label with a unique code work?
The unique PIN stays hidden under the coating. Whoever receives the product scratches it off and checks the code on a website, or scans the QR that leads to the verification page.
Does a scratch-off label prevent copying?
Not by itself. It makes it possible to check whether a code exists and how many times it has been checked; according to the EUIPO, a QR alone does not protect against copying, so it is combined with other layers, such as a hologram or fragile base.
Who knows the PINs during production?
It is defined in the project. If the customer requires that the factory has no access to the PINs in clear text, a confidentiality procedure is proposed and set out in the offer.
What personal data does online verification record?
It depends on the page. If it records the IP address or location, people must be informed, under the GDPR. Who acts as controller and how long the data are kept is defined per project.
